More Than Just Words, Renters Share Their Experience

We recently shared our passion and commitment for excellent service here at Something Borrowed. We hope it inspired you to join our club, but in case you need a little more encouragement, we love to share the stories of our real brides. You can read about how our previous beautiful brides have rented their wedding dress or bridesmaid dresses here. Today, we are excited to introduce you to two of our latest renters with two unique stories that are as unique as they are. Read on for inspiration and advice.

Jolyn is our first bride whose story shows that your wedding dress rental experience can meet your needs, whatever they maybe, to make your personal wedding dreams come true.

Name: Jolyn

Age: 30

Date of Wedding: Wore the dress on 9th January

Location: Married in Malaysia, dress worn in London from St Paul’s to London Eye

Husband: Jaylon

Did you consider buying a dress first of all? If so, what made you then consider renting instead?

I did consider it but as I am travelling I researched other options and found Something Borrowed on Instagram. I was intrigued by the simple designs and the fact that the dress was pretty and elegant.

What do you feel are the benefits of renting?

The process was seamless and worked perfectly for my situation as I didn’t need to worry about how to take the dress with me since I am travelling.

Why were you drawn to renting from Something Borrowed?

I absolutely loved the Simone dress from the Rewritten brand as soon as I stumbled upon it on Something Borrowed website.

What would you tell your friends and family about the service you've received from Something Borrowed?

It was above and beyond, exemplary with nothing to fault at all.

How long did you rent your dress for and why?

I had it for four days for a destination photoshoot around the city of London.

Did you take advantage of the try on at home service? If yes, why? If not, why not?

I didn’t as I know my sizes and was confident the Simone dress would fit me.

Do you have any advice for other brides who are considering renting their dress?

I recommend it, it is a once in a lifetime experience.

Now let us introduce you to Beth, a renter looking to hire her bridesmaid dresses after recognising, from her own experience as a bridesmaid, that purchasing a dress means it ends up sat in the wardrobe never to be worn again.

Name: Beth

Age: 30

Date of Wedding: 31st December 2021

Location: The Oak Barn, Devon, EX6 6LF

Husband: Adam

Did you consider buying a dress first of all? If so, what made you then consider renting instead?

Yes, I actually found the dresses I wanted from their original retailer first. After some Googling I then found them available at Something Borrowed and thought it was a fantastic idea. I have a few bridesmaid dresses myself and they are never worn again. The idea of being able to give one back is great, much more sustainable and at a lower cost.

What do you feel are the benefits of renting and why were you drawn to renting from Something Borrowed?

It is great for the bride as you can have a beautiful dress without the cost, perfect for the bridesmaids too because you don't have the storage of the dress afterwards. I am too sentimental to get rid of bridesmaid dresses myself but I never wear them again - they take up valuable space! I loved the idea after finding you and you had the exact dresses I was looking at buying.

What would you tell your friends and family about the service you've received from Something Borrowed?

I would highly recommend Something Borrowed, Christie was great and really helpful.

Do other aspects of your wedding have the Something Borrowed ethos too?

Yes, I borrowed a lot of decor items from friends/family rather than buying new items that I wouldn't need again after the big day. It was much more sustainable and it also meant I didn't have lots of work to do after the wedding selling items on.

How long did you rent your dress for and why?

I rented them for a week. It was a NYE wedding and we had bank holidays around it so or my own peace of mind I wanted to know I had received the dresses and that I had a couple of days afterwards to get them collected.

Did you take advantage of the try on at home service?

Yes I did as two of my bridesmaids were pregnant and we weren't sure how the style would suit them or what size they would need.

How do you feel about process for receiving and returning your dress?

It was really easy and straight forward.

Do you have any advice for other brides who are considering renting their dress?

You should absolutely do it! If I hadn't already bought my wedding dress I would definitely have used Something Borrowed for that in addition to my bridesmaid dresses.

Did you have a theme and what was your favourite thing about planning your wedding?

Our wedding had a bohemian vibe with an Autumn twist as I love autumnal colours so we had dried flowers in oranges, reds and browns. We spent an afternoon with our florist making flower hoops, table decorations and button holes. It was a really great time spent with my Mum, Mother in Law, Aunty and bridesmaids. I think the preparation should be just as much fun as the actual day!

What flavour cake did you have?

We made our own wedding cake! That wasn't the plan but a last minute necessity. We went for a semi-naked 3 tier Victoria sponge. I baked it and my husband watched a YouTube video on how to ice it. It looked amazing, I was so impressed.

Where did you go on honeymoon?

We are stayed local and took a short break to Cornwall the day after the wedding. We are off to the Scilly Iles in the summer – we can't wait!

We love hearing from our real brides with their unique take on their own love story. It was such a pleasure to be a part of Jolyn’s and Beth’s day, and to know that they found rental to be the best option for them. No matter what your plans are, we are sure to be able to make your dreams come true with our wedding dress rental and bridesmaid dress rental.
